Three quarters of offenders 'never give up crime' - Glasgow News: "Three in four offenders do not give up their life of crime, new figures from the Ministry of Justice show.
The report reveals that 74 per cent of criminals who were discharged from custody or started a court order between January and March 2000 were re-convicted within nine years.
More than half of repeat offenders were reconvicted within 12 months of ending their sentence.
Reoffending rates are higher among those serving short-term sentences than among those given community orders.
And 19.2 per cent of adults who were given a caution in 2008 subsequently reoffended."
